‘SEX NOVO (sex in the background)’ is the second long feature film in about sex by Werther Germondari and Maria Laura Spagnoli. The first one, ‘SEX EQUO (sex in the foreground)’, has been featured in 2011. There is also a third movie in progress, ‘(S)EXPLICITUS'. The three movies will form the tryptic ‘TRACTATUS LOGICO PHILEROTICUS'
The subtitles of the first two films, inspired by two Duke Ellington’s albums (‘Piano in the foreground’ and ‘Piano in the background’) hints at the way in which the research on the topic of sex has been and still is conducted on both films. In fact, they are made both with the usual irreverent and ironic gaze of the authors, Germondari and Spagnoli and, particularly, in the second one is more explored the fetish/bdsm, because in these ‘disciplines’ the sex is in most cases really ‘in the background’.
